Indonesian prisons use fitness programs for inmate rehabilitation

Correctional facilities in Indonesia are utilizing physical activity and community events as part of inmate rehabilitation and discipline programs.

At the Bengkalis Class IIA Prison, staff and inmates participated in morning gymnastics and an awards ceremony to celebrate the 81st Anniversary of Indonesian Independence. Prison Head Priyo Tri Laksono stated that these activities aim to maintain physical fitness and foster harmonious relationships between officers and inmates.

Similarly, the Sidoarjo Class IIA Prison has implemented routine morning gymnastics for its inmates. This program is designed to promote healthy lifestyles and physical readiness for other rehabilitative activities. These sessions are accompanied by briefings from officers to reinforce discipline, security, and positive behavior within the facility.
