Indonesian prosecutors investigate corruption in Bekasi oil and gas and Nunukan mining sectors
Indonesian prosecutors are conducting separate investigations into alleged corruption involving oil, gas, and mining operations.
The Attorney General's Office (JAM PIDSUS) is investigating alleged irregularities in the management of PT Minyak dan Gas Bumi (Perseroda) Bekasi through a joint operation scheme with PT Pertamina EP between 2009 and 2024. Investigators recently questioned a witness from Pertamina EP to clarify business processes and decision-making during this 15-year period.
In a separate case, prosecutors searched a hotel in Nunukan, North Kalimantan, linked to two former regents, AHA and AL. The investigation concerns alleged corruption in coal mining activities by PT CCM from 2013 to 2025. Allegations include the unauthorized use of forest area release documents, manipulation of environmental impact assessments (AMDAL), and the misuse of mining suspension mechanisms to extend permits. Investigators are also examining the use of unauthorized special terminals for the sale of over 5 million tons of coal between 2021 and 2025.
