Indonesian railway authorities are implementing new safety measures following recent incidents at level crossings. In Jakarta, PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) has intensified safety education at the JPL 1 Karet crossing in Tanah Abang. This move follows an incident on August 24, 2026, where an electric taxi was struck by a Commuter Line train. While no fatalities were reported, the collision disrupted service, prompting KAI to collaborate with community groups and RailFans to distribute safety posters and raise awareness about train braking limitations.

Separately, the Balai Teknik Perkeretaapian Kelas I Jakarta has announced the permanent closure of the JPL 183 crossing in Rangkasbitung, effective September 4, 2026. The decision aims to minimize accident risks in the high-mobility area near Rangkasbitung Station and a traditional market, where motorists frequently bypass closed gates. Authorities are advising the public to use the Rangkasbitung Station pedestrian bridge as an alternative route.
