Indonesia conducts Salat Istisqa prayers to combat drought

Various regions across Indonesia are conducting Salat Istisqa, a special prayer to request rain, in response to prolonged dry seasons and drought conditions.

In Banyumas, personnel from the TNI, Polri, and local government gathered at the Kodim 0701/Banyumas field to perform the ritual. Leaders emphasized that the prayer serves as both a spiritual effort and a call for environmental introspection and responsibility.

In South Sumatra, the regional Ministry of Religious Affairs joined Governor Herman Deru and other officials for a mass prayer at Griya Agung in Palembang. The event aimed to seek divine assistance amidst drought threats and the potential for forest and land fires (Karhutla). Participants were encouraged to use the moment for repentance and unity as a means to address the ongoing climate challenges.
