Indonesian regencies implement rural economic development programs
Local governments in Indonesia are implementing strategic programs to bolster rural economies through commodity-based development and agricultural rejuvenation.
In Halmahera Barat, North Maluku, the regency government is strengthening assistance for 84 villages under the Integrated Village Economic Transformation (Tekad) Program. The initiative aims to foster sustainable village economies by encouraging businesses based on local potential, such as coconut shell briquette production. Officials are proposing the development of “thematic villages” centered on specific superior commodities to ensure more targeted economic impact.
In Bangka Barat, West Bangka, the regency government is collaborating with cooperatives to execute the People's Palm Oil Rejuvenation (PSR) Program. Funded by the Palm Oil Fund Management Agency (BPDPKS), the program provides farmers with certified superior seeds to replace aging, unproductive palm trees. This effort seeks to increase productivity, restore soil fertility, and ensure long-term economic stability for local farming families.
