Indonesian regional governments strengthen gender mainstreaming
Regional governments in Indonesia are intensifying efforts to integrate gender mainstreaming (PUG) into their development programs to ensure inclusive and equitable growth.
In Sumenep, Regent Achmad Fauzi Wongsojudo has directed 27 regional government organizations (OPD) to incorporate gender perspectives into all stages of development, including planning, budgeting, implementation, and evaluation. This initiative is supported by Regional Regulation Number 4 of 2023, aiming to move beyond simple women's empowerment toward a cross-sectoral development strategy.
Similarly, the Banten Provincial Government is committing to strengthening gender mainstreaming to ensure fair access to public services for women, men, children, the elderly, and people with disabilities. Banten Regional Secretary Deden Apriandhi emphasized that gender perspectives must be integrated into all sectors, such as public works, health, and education, to achieve the province's vision of inclusive and equitable development.
