Central Kalimantan schools adjust schedules due to haze
Local governments in Central Kalimantan, Indonesia, are implementing various measures to protect students and staff from deteriorating air quality caused by thick haze.
In Dharmasraya, the local government has suspended teaching and learning activities for early childhood education (PAUD) and kindergarten levels. For elementary and junior high schools, students are required to wear masks and limit outdoor activities, such as sports or scouting.
In Gunung Mas, authorities have reduced classroom hours for PAUD, elementary, and junior high students. School start times have been delayed from 07:00 to 08:00, and outdoor flag ceremonies have been canceled. Schools are also prohibited from burning waste on premises.
In Palangka Raya, members of the Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) have proposed that teachers be allowed to implement remote learning (PJJ) to ensure they are not exposed to health risks during their commute or while teaching in affected environments.
