Indonesian SAR teams continue searches for missing children in West Sulawesi and Lampung rivers

Search‑and‑Rescue (SAR) authorities are still looking for two children, Humairah (7) and Dermawan (6), who went missing while swimming in the Mapilli River in Polewali Mandar, West Sulawesi. The joint SAR effort, coordinated by Basarnas Mamuju and involving local rescue units, TNI, police and community volunteers, has conducted two days of rubber‑boat sweeps along both banks of the river, but the children have not been found.

In a separate incident in South Lampung, a 5‑year‑old boy named Kenji disappeared after being swept downstream by rising water in the Way Pisang River. Basarnas Lampung deployed a team of divers and additional SAR personnel, including BPBD staff, police, TNI and local villagers, to search the river with rubber boats and underwater equipment. As of the latest update, the child remains missing and the operation continues.

Both searches underline the ongoing risk of river accidents during the rainy season and the coordinated response of Indonesia’s emergency and rescue agencies.
