Indonesian schools implement character and environmental programs
Schools in Indonesia are implementing diverse programs to foster character development and social responsibility among students.
At SMPN 5 Purwakarta, the institution promotes religious tolerance through the Agama Keagamaan dan Pendalaman Kitab (AKPK) program. The school provides dedicated worship spaces for various faiths, including a mosque, the Ekklesia Room for Protestant Christians, the Santo Ignatius Room for Catholics, and the Padmasari Room for Hindus. Principal Neneng M. Fatimah stated that providing equal facilities ensures students can practice their faith comfortably, serving as a practical lesson in tolerance.
In Yogyakarta, SMP Muhammadiyah 8 Yogyakarta has launched the Panca Tertib program via Pantiq for School to instill discipline and environmental stewardship. A key component is the Zero Waste Movement, which encourages students to adopt the 5R principles: refuse, reduce, reuse, recycle, and rot. The initiative aims to turn students into agents of change by teaching them to manage waste and reduce single-use items, integrating these habits into both school and home life.
