Indonesian seafood exports reach Rp 3.49 trillion at JISTE 2026 in Japan

Indonesian seafood exports, including tuna and octopus, reached Rp 3.49 trillion at the JISTE 2026 event in Japan. The event aims to strengthen economic partnerships and boost exports by addressing Japanese market requirements for traceability, freshness, and sanitary compliance.

Despite the high export value, domestic challenges persist for Indonesian fishermen. Average monthly income for fishermen remains at approximately Rp 2.5 million, which is below the estimated minimum requirement of Rp 4.4 million for a family of four. Experts suggest that inadequate cold chain management leads to significant product spoilage and loss of value before goods reach consumers. Improving logistics and managing sustainable fishing levels are cited as critical steps for improving fisherman welfare and food security.
