Indonesian SPMB admission draws crowds in West Java private schools, second wave opens in Rembang

In West Java, a private high school designated as a partner in the provincial free‑school program—SMA Telekomunikasi Sekar Kemuning in Cirebon—attracted a large number of prospective students and parents on 17 June 2026. The influx comes amid concerns after earlier controversies in the SPMB admission process, with parents seeking clarification on enrollment mechanisms and fearing a repeat of psychological pressure on applicants.

In Central Java's Rembang regency, the education office opened the second wave of the SPMB for public junior high schools from 11–13 June 2026 to fill remaining seats after the first wave. The second wave permits applicants from outside a school’s domicile area to apply, aiming to increase enrollment, reduce the number of out‑of‑school children and prevent dropouts. Officials emphasized the goal of ensuring all school‑age children continue their education.
