Indonesian Transport Minister orders ramp checks for holiday season

Indonesian Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwagandhi has instructed the Ministry of Transportation to intensify safety inspections, known as ramp checks, ahead of the 2026 Christmas and 2027 New Year holiday period.

The inspections will cover all modes of transport, including road vehicles, ferries, sea vessels, aircraft, and trains, to ensure all services meet safety standards and are fit for operation. Purwagandhi emphasized that these checks serve as a preventive measure to identify potential safety hazards before vehicles and vessels are deployed for public use.

In the land transport sector, the Directorate General of Land Transportation will focus on public vehicles, particularly buses. To support these efforts, the ministry is optimizing the MitraDarat application, a digital system used by Land Transportation Management Agencies and regional transportation offices to record and integrate inspection results.
