Indonesian universities lead community waste management initiatives

Academic institutions in Indonesia are conducting community service programs focused on environmental management and waste governance.

In Serang Regency, students from Universitas Bina Bangsa (Uniba) held an educational seminar and eco-craft training in Undar Andir Village. The initiative aimed to increase awareness of waste management through the 3R principles (reduce, reuse, recycle) and teach residents how to transform plastic waste into products with economic value.

In Magelang Regency, a lecturer from Universitas Islam Indonesia (UII) assisted the Kalibening Village government in strengthening waste management systems. The program included support for drafting village regulations (Perdes) regarding waste governance and the development of a digital waste application to improve transparency and accessibility in local waste collection and disposal.
