Indonesian Universities Yarsi and Mercu Buana Boost Village Livelihoods with Sustainable Tech

Universitas Yarsi’s Center for Village Empowerment held a community service program in Mandalamekar, Bandung, teaching residents to convert fish waste into organic liquid fertilizer (POC) through simple fermentation. Six Yarsi students assisted with training, documentation and monitoring, aiming to cut pollution and create a new income source for local fish farmers.

Universitas Dian Nusantara (Undira) and Universitas Mercu Buana (UMB) advanced their Village Empowerment Program in Pondok Kelor, Tangerang by delivering appropriate‑technology equipment for household‑waste management and reviving moringa (kelor) planting. The tools support the village youth group and a BUMDes food enterprise that processes cassava and moringa products. "This is not just handing over tools; it is the start of a system built together with the community," said program leader Desiana Vidayanti. Both initiatives include training in financial literacy, business management and product quality to ensure lasting community benefit.
