Indonesian World Records Museum certifies record-large women's Sapin Bagan dance and biggest opak serving

The Indonesian World Records Museum (MURI) officially recognized two cultural records in July 2026. On July 23, 2026, a gathering of 7,750 women from 18 districts performed the traditional Sapin Bagan dance during the "Semarak Tari Rokan Hilir dan Hari Anak Nasional" event in Rokan Hilir Regency, setting the largest women‑only Sapin Bagan performance.

The following day, July 24, 2026, MURI also certified the largest serving of opak – a glutinous‑rice snack native to Tasikmalaya Regency – with 3,123 portions prepared for the regency's 394th anniversary celebrations. Both events emphasized local cultural preservation and community collaboration.

These records showcase Indonesia’s diverse intangible heritage, from Malay dance traditions to regional culinary specialties, and highlight the role of local governments and community groups in promoting and safeguarding cultural practices.
