Indonesia's 81st Independence Day Zikir and Doa Kebangsaan at Monas draws 100,000 worshippers, 1,263 security personnel

On Saturday 1 August 2026, Jakarta’s Monumen Nasional (Monas) hosted the Zikir and Doa Kebangsaan ceremony marking the 81st anniversary of Indonesia’s independence. Organisers expected roughly 100,000 participants from Jakarta, West Java and Banten to gather for the spiritual observance.

The Jakarta Metropolitan Police (Polda Metro Jaya) coordinated with the Ministry of Religious Affairs, the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) and DKI Jakarta authorities to deploy 1,263 combined personnel for security, traffic control and health services. The event ran from 17:00 to 21:30 local time, with designated entry points and guidance for worshippers to bring their own prayer equipment. "We want to ensure each attendee can follow the ceremony calmly and devoutly," said Muchlis M. Hanafi, secretary of the Kemenag task force.
