Indonesia's Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman meets Eastern university leaders to boost agri innovation

Indonesia's Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman gathered rectors and senior officials from universities in Eastern Indonesia in Jakarta on 28 June 2026. The audience reviewed recent advances in the national agriculture sector, including higher food production, strengthened grain reserves and a range of government‑led initiatives aimed at achieving sustainable food self‑sufficiency.

The minister pledged expanded collaboration, regulatory support and funding for research and technology development. University representatives praised the commitment, noting the need for climate‑resilient solutions and urging stronger ties between academia and the ministry. The meeting aligns with President Prabowo Subianto’s call for universities to play a larger role in Indonesia's drive for food independence and broader scientific innovation.
