Indonesia's Agriculture Minister Says Rice Stock Safe, No Imports Needed Ahead of El Nino

Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman reported that Indonesia’s national rice reserves have reached about 5.2 million tonnes, providing sufficient supply for up to 11 months and eliminating the need for any medium‑grade rice imports. He said the stock level is well above the 3 million‑ton capacity of the state‑run Bulog warehouses, forcing the agency to lease additional storage of roughly 2.2 million tonnes.

Amran also outlined mitigation measures for the anticipated El Nino drought, including the construction of reservoirs, pumped irrigation, deep wells, and land optimisation, to ensure the country’s food security remains intact throughout the dry season.
