Indonesia's KPK probes multiple corruption cases across customs, immigration and public works

Indonesia’s Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) is conducting parallel investigations into several high‑profile corruption scandals.

In Bali, KPK questioned six officials from a visa‑processing agency and 13 witnesses from the immigration ministry as part of a probe into alleged extortion of foreign‑resident permits linked to former deputy minister Silmy Karim. The agency’s director, operational staff and private‑sector representatives were examined at Polresta Denpasar and the KPK headquarters.

A separate customs investigation focuses on bribery tied to illegal import of counterfeit goods. Former senior Customs and Excise Directorate officials – Rizal Fadillah, Sisprian Subiaksono and Orlando Hamongan – are slated for a first trial on 3 July 2026, with additional suspects from the private firm Blueray Cargo also facing charges. The case uncovered suspected cash payments of more than US$200 k and potential losses of billions of rupiah.

KPK has also expanded a corruption probe into the Ministry of Public Works, arresting two civil servants for fabricating projects that cost the state about Rp 16 billion, and naming additional suspects from state‑owned enterprises and contractors.

Other recent actions include questioning former MPR secretary‑general Ma’ruf Cahyono over alleged procurement gratuities. Together, these inquiries reflect a broad KPK crackdown on corruption across several ministries and state agencies.
