Indonesia's BPOM revokes permits for 11 cosmetics containing hazardous ingredients
Indonesia's Food and Drug Authority (BPOM) announced it has withdrawn market authorisation for 11 cosmetic products after routine surveillance in the first quarter of 2026 uncovered dangerous and prohibited substances. The identified products, encompassing locally‑produced, imported and contract‑manufactured brands as well as three items lacking any registration, were found to contain retinoic acid, dexamethasone, hydroquinone, mercury, red dye K10, 1,4‑dioxane or combinations thereof.
BPOM has ordered an immediate halt to the production, distribution and import of the listed items, which include BYOUT SKINCARE Brightening Spot Cream, BRASOV Nail Polish, LT BEAUTY SKIN WSC, MADAME GIE Madame Take5, SELSUN 7 Herbal, SELSUN 7 Flowers, TZUYU SKIN CARE Day Cream Protection and Glow Expert Night Cream, BEAUTYWISE Rejuvenating Facial Toner, and MONESIA APOTHECARY Melano Glow Duo Night Cream and Night Melano Cream. The agency warned that exposure to these ingredients can cause skin irritation, hormonal disturbances, organ damage such as kidney injury, liver dysfunction, permanent skin discoloration, and even cancer. Under Indonesia’s Health Law (Law No. 17/2023), violations may result in up to 12 years imprisonment or fines of up to Rp 5 billion.
