Indonesia's Broadcasting Sector Reviews 2025 Budget and Draft Media Law

The House of Representatives’ Commission VII met with the National Standardization Agency (BSN) and public broadcasters TVRI, RRI and news agency ANTARA to assess the implementation of the 2025 state budget. Chair Chusnunia Chalim emphasized evaluating performance and impact, not just fund absorption, and sought clarity on program outcomes, indicators and challenges.

In parallel, the East Java Regional Broadcasting Commission (KPID) and Universitas Brawijaya hosted a focus‑group discussion in Surabaya to gather public input on a draft broadcasting law. Participants highlighted the need for regulations that keep pace with digital media, ensure equal rules for traditional broadcasters and internet platforms, and prevent viral content from eclipsing substantive policy debate. Officials and academics called for a law that protects media quality while adapting to new technology.
