Indonesia's BULOG commits to year‑round paddy absorption
Director General of the state grain corporation Perum BULOG, Ahmad Rizal Ramdhani, reaffirmed that the agency will continue to absorb domestically produced paddy throughout the year in line with President Instruction No. 4 of 2026. He stressed that the programme is a state assignment aimed at ensuring farmers receive fair prices and that rice market stability is maintained.
By 29 June 2026, BULOG had already absorbed 3.24 million tons of paddy equivalent rice, representing 81 % of the 4 million‑ton target for the year. The corporation emphasised that its role is to act as a government instrument rather than compete with private rice‑millers, supporting the national goal of food‑security and price stability.
The continued absorption is a response to concerns from rice‑milling businesses about late‑season supply dynamics, and it reflects the government's broader strategy to strengthen strategic rice reserves and protect farmer incomes.
