Indonesia's Coordinating Minister Djamari Chaniago urges holistic view of policies and boosts land operations to curb森林火
During a working visit to Banjarbaru in South Kalimantan, Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs (Menko Polkam) General (Ret.) Djamari Chaniago called on the public to understand government programmes as a whole rather than in isolated fragments. He highlighted initiatives ranging from economic strengthening and education to health and human‑resource development, citing the “Program Sekolah Rakyat” as an example of expanding educational access.
Chaniago also stressed that ground‑based task‑force operations are essential to control forest and land fires (karhutla). He ordered rapid extinguishing of any fire hotspots, thorough cooling of burned areas, especially on peatlands, and urged coordination with the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) and local authorities to ensure sufficient personnel and equipment. The minister warned against reliance on aerial firefighting alone and emphasized continuous water‑spraying to prevent re‑ignition.
