Indonesia's Creative Economy Ministry launches film IP and targets Canadian market

Minister of Creative Economy and Head of the Creative Economy Agency, Teuku Riefky Harsya, announced the development of the film "Foufo" as an intellectual‑property (IP) product that showcases local culture. The film, produced by SKAK Studios and SinemArt, involves about 90% local talent and 120 animators from Hompimpa Animworks, and is scheduled for a nationwide release on 9 July 2026. Riefky said the project demonstrates how regional stories can generate economic value and expand the national creative‑economy ecosystem.

In a separate push, Riefky outlined a strategy to broaden Indonesia’s creative‑product exports to Canada. After meeting Indonesian Ambassador to Canada Muhsin Syihab, he highlighted the high purchasing power and growing interest in Indonesian creative goods in Canadian markets such as Toronto and Quebec. The plan leverages the Indonesia‑Canada Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (ICA‑CEPA) to improve competitiveness of Indonesian fashion, food and other creative sectors, aiming to increase exports and job creation in the creative industry.
