Indonesia's Customs Director Djaka Budhi Utama Implicated in Billion‑Rupiah Bribe Scandal
Indonesia’s customs chief, Director General Djaka Budhi Utama, has been linked to alleged bribe payments worth billions of rupiah in a trial before the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK). Businessman John Field, head of PT Blueray Cargo, admitted to participating in the scheme, acknowledging the transfer of large sums to customs officials during court proceedings in Jakarta.
The investigation has also named other customs officers and related officials as recipients of illicit funds. Political commentator Gus Lilur, a tobacco entrepreneur, called on President Prabowo Subianto to dismiss Djaka Budhi Utama, arguing that the director’s conduct fails to support the president and undermines state revenue. The case intensifies scrutiny of Indonesia’s customs agency and fuels public demands for accountability and reform.
