Indonesia customs seizes over 6 million illegal cigarettes in 2026

Indonesia’s customs offices stepped up enforcement against illegal tobacco in 2026. In Kediri, customs officials carried out 16 enforcement actions during June, seizing 3,175,304 illegal cigarettes worth about Rp 4.72 billion. The operation prevented an estimated loss of Rp 3.08 billion for the state. The office is headed by Gatot Heroe Hernanda, who credited intelligence work and coordination with law‑enforcement agencies.

In Kendari, customs conducted 201 enforcement actions from January through 21 July, confiscating 2,952,320 illegal cigarettes and 655.24 liters of illegal liquor. The seized goods were valued at roughly Rp 4.86 billion, averting an estimated loss of Rp 3.11 billion. The Kendari office, led by Taufik Sapto Harsono, also reported that the actions generated Rp 447.85 million in additional state revenue and highlighted a series of operations across several regencies in Southeast Sulawesi.
