Indonesia's Dave Laksono urges stronger security detection and cautions on defense minister appointment
Deputy Chairman of DPR Commission I Dave Laksono called on the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) and the State Intelligence Agency (BIN) to enhance early‑detection capabilities, situational analysis and readiness to counter potential security disturbances. He stressed that rapid, accurate assessment is essential for a swift, proportionate response and for preserving national stability and democratic values. Laksono also highlighted the growing spread of old video clips presented as current events, urging stronger digital‑disinformation handling by the Ministry of Communication and Digital platforms and improved digital literacy among the public.
Separately, Laksono addressed circulating rumors that President Prabowo Subianto had appointed businessman Norman Joesoef as Deputy Defense Minister. He said no official confirmation had been received and advised the public to await a formal announcement. Laksono emphasized that any appointment should bring integrity, competence and a focus on modernising the armed forces and fostering self‑reliance in the defence industry.
