Indonesia's Deposit Insurance Agency reports banking sector resilience and strong state bank profits in 2026
The Deposit Insurance Agency (LPS) said public confidence in Indonesia’s banking system remained high in early 2026. Total deposits at commercial banks rose 12.9% year‑on‑year to Rp10,250.32 trillion, covering 661.6 million accounts, while savings at BPR/BPRS reached Rp180.46 trillion from 15.6 million accounts. LPS premium income increased 17.1% to Rp10.51 trillion, and it paid out Rp299.09 billion in claims to 33,707 customers, confirming a 99.99% claim‑payment eligibility rate.
Banking performance data for the first half of 2026 showed state‑owned banks (Himbara) outpacing private peers. Bank Mandiri reported profit of Rp23.31 trillion (+18.6% YoY), BRI posted Rp20.42 trillion (+9.5%), and BNI earned Rp9.05 trillion (+7.1%). In contrast, private bank BCA’s profit grew only 2.07% to Rp25.68 trillion. Credit growth was strongest at BNI (24.55% YoY), followed by Mandiri (20.56%), BRI (12.23%) and BCA (4.85%). Analysts view the results as a solid recovery driven by corporate credit expansion and accommodative interest rates.
