Indonesia's Digital Competitiveness Index Shows 50% Growth, Jakarta Leads

Indonesia's Digital Competitiveness Index (EV‑DCI) released by East Ventures and Katadata Insight Center shows the national score rising to 42.2 in 2026, up from 38.8 in 2025 – a more than 50 % increase since 2020. The index covers 38 provinces and 157 cities, with 37 provinces improving their scores.

Jakarta and West Java retained the top two spots for the sixth consecutive year, followed by East Java, Banten, Yogyakarta, East Kalimantan, Bali, Central Java, Riau Islands and South Sulawesi. Southwest Papua achieved the largest jump, climbing 15 ranks thanks to a surge in 4G‑connected villages. Despite overall gains, the gap remains wide: Jakarta leads the lowest‑scoring province by almost 60 points.

Co‑Founder Willson Cuaca highlighted that Indonesia’s advantage now lies in efficient data collection, integrated processing platforms and trustworthy information distribution, which can turn digital infrastructure into a tangible dividend. The report notes a shift from mere adoption to creating economic value, stressing the need for AI‑ready talent and outlining four priorities – cross‑sector collaboration, expanded connectivity, MSME digitalisation, and a future‑ready workforce.
