Indonesia's Education Minister Brian Yuliarto Pushes University Innovation, Starts Doctoral Scholarships
Indonesia's Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology, Brian Yuliarto, addressed a national meeting of university professors at Padjadjaran University in Bandung on 19‑21 June 2026. He urged the academic community to strengthen universities as sources of scientific and technological solutions, emphasizing research, innovation, energy independence and industrial development as keys to national self‑reliance.
The ministry also announced the continuation of the Doctoral Scholarship Program for Indonesian Lecturers (BPDDI) for 2026. The programme, launched in 2025, has already benefited 1,269 lecturers across the country and aims to increase the number of PhD‑qualified staff to boost the nation’s research capacity.
