Indonesia's Eid al-Adha Qurban Involves Over 2 Million Animals Valued at Rp18.28 Trillion
The Ministry of Religious Affairs reported that 2,032,753 sacrificial animals were slaughtered for Eid al‑Adha 1447 Hijri in Indonesia, comprising 676,866 cattle and 1,355,887 goats. Director of Islamic Religious Affairs and Sharia Development Arsad Hidayat said the figure shows "more than two million sacrificial animals were distributed across mosques throughout Indonesia," reflecting strong public participation and social solidarity.
The estimated economic value of the qurban reaches Rp18.28 trillion (about Rp14.21 trillion from cattle and Rp4.07 trillion from goats), driving income for livestock farmers, animal traders and meat‑distribution networks. East Java recorded the highest number of animals, followed by Central and West Java. The Ministry emphasized the event as both a religious rite and a moment to promote equitable distribution of protein and community support.
