Indonesia's Election Ethics Council probes Joko Widodo diploma case

Indonesia's Election Organizer Honor Council (DKPP) opened a hearing on 21 July 2026 (case No. 11‑PKE‑DKPP/VII/2026) to examine alleged ethical violations by KPU commissioners concerning a single‑page diploma used by President Joko Widodo in his candidacies since 2005. The complaint, filed by Bonatua Silalahi, claims the diploma’s legalization lacks a date, omits the signatory’s identity, and was improperly archived.

DKPP stressed that the inquiry is not about the diploma’s authenticity but whether KPU officials breached election‑organising ethics. The matter has already involved police, general courts, administrative courts, the Information Commission, and even the Constitutional Court. University of Gadjah Mada confirms Widodo graduated in 1985, though the dossier has become a focal point for multiple legal and administrative challenges.
