Indonesia's Finance and Home Affairs Ministers Discuss Disaster Recovery Funding

Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa met with Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian to strengthen coordination between the central government and regional authorities on the use of Transfer to Regions (TKD) funds. The ministers said tighter inter‑ministerial synergy is needed to ensure that regional budgets directly improve public welfare.

Karnavian asked Sadewa to release an additional Rp 6 trillion to speed up disaster recovery and reconstruction in Aceh, North Sumatra and West Sumatra. The requested funds would support the Agriculture Ministry's Rp 2.6 trillion plan to repair damaged fields, the Marine and Fisheries Ministry's Rp 1.5 trillion effort to restore shrimp and fish ponds, the Religious Affairs Ministry's Rp 484 billion to rebuild pesantrens and places of worship, and the UMKM Ministry's over Rp 600 billion to aid micro‑businesses. The request complements the existing Rp 10.6 trillion already transferred to the three provinces and a broader three‑year, Rp 100.1 trillion Sumatra disaster recovery plan slated through 2028.
