Indonesia's foreign reserves dip slightly to $145.3 bn in July 2026

Bank Indonesia reported that the country's foreign exchange reserves stood at US$145.3 billion at the end of July 2026, a marginal decline of US$0.3 billion from the US$145.6 billion recorded at the end of June. The central bank said the movement was driven primarily by tax and service receipts, the issuance of global sovereign bonds, payments on external debt and the bank’s rupiah‑stabilisation policy amid heightened global market uncertainty.

The reserve level is equivalent to financing 5.5 months of imports (or 5.3 months when debt payments are included) and remains well above the international adequacy benchmark of roughly three months of imports. Bank Indonesia noted that the reserves underpin external‑sector resilience and help maintain macro‑economic and financial‑system stability.

Data show that after a peak of US$156.5 billion in December 2025, the reserves fell to US$144.9 billion in May 2026, a cumulative drop of US$11.6 billion. In the second quarter of 2026, net foreign‑portfolio inflows amounted to US$8.5 billion, largely from Indonesian sovereign bonds (SBN) and Rupiah‑denominated securities (SRBI).
