Indonesia's Foreign Minister Sugiono Leads First Delegation to Pay Tribute to Iran's Ayatollah Ali Khamenei
On July 11, 2026, Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono visited Mashhad, Iran, to attend the burial and pay respects at the tomb of the late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei. The Indonesian delegation, which included the Chairman of the People's Representative Council and leading ulama, was the first from Indonesia to honor the deceased leader.
During the visit, Sugiono met Iranian Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi and Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to deepen Indonesia‑Iran relations, expand concrete cooperation in priority sectors, and promote dialogue, respect for sovereignty and international law in regional and global affairs. The ministry noted that the ministers “tukar pandangan mengenai perkembangan situasi regional dan global, serta menekankan pentingnya penyelesaian konflik melalui dialog, diplomasi, penghormatan terhadap kedaulatan negara, dan hukum internasional.”
