Indonesia's Forestry Minister Raja Juli Antoni Key Gatekeeper for Forest Carbon Market
The Climate Policy Initiative (CPI) highlighted the pivotal role of Indonesia’s Forestry Minister Raja Juli Antoni as the primary gatekeeper for the nation’s forest carbon trading system. CPI director Tiza Mafira explained that the minister’s authority is anchored in President Regulation No. 110/2025 and Forestry Minister Regulation No. 6/2026, which empower the Ministry of Forestry to operate the Carbon Unit Registry System (SRUK). Through SRUK, the ministry validates technical standards and monitors all forest carbon projects to prevent double counting of carbon units.
Mafira said that strict oversight safeguards the credibility of Indonesia’s green commodities, helping to build market trust domestically and internationally. By avoiding duplicate claims, the country can attract premium prices for its forest carbon credits, with projects such as mangrove restoration in NTB cited as examples of the emerging market.
