Indonesia's KPK probes envelope bribery between Minister Raja Juli and Kuantan Singingi regent

Following a meeting at the Ministry of Forestry on 2 June 2026, Bupati Kuantan Singingi, Suhardiman Amby, left a white envelope for Minister of Forestry Raja Juli Antoni. The minister said the envelope was returned on 12 June 2026 through his aide, stating he did not know its contents and returned it as a matter of moral responsibility.

Researchers from the University of Gadjah Mada urged the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to summon the minister for questioning, recommending checks of digital communications, CCTV footage and testimony from witnesses. The IM57+ Institute also called for a full investigation, citing initial evidence of money transfer.

On 3 July 2026 the KPK received a report of alleged gratification involving the minister. The agency’s Directorate of Gratification and Public Service began verifying the report, assessing whether it can be acted upon under the 2026 anti‑corruption regulations. KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo emphasized that the probe will ensure the integrity of the national land‑reform program, TORA.

Political leaders, including PDIP chairman Deddy Sitorus, criticized the KPK’s reliance on sting operations (OTT) and urged broader preventive measures against corruption at the systemic level.
