Indonesia's Forestry Minister Raja Juli Reports Envelope from Kuansing Official

Indonesia's Minister of Forestry, Raja Juli Antoni, disclosed that Bupati (regent) of Kuantan Singingi, Suhardiman Amby, left a sealed white envelope during a meeting on 2 June 2026. Raja Juli said he was unaware of the envelope's contents and ordered his aide to return it to the regent on 12 June 2026.

Following the Commission for Eradication of Corruption (KPK)’s sting operation on 29‑30 June 2026 that led to Suhardiman’s arrest, Raja Juli filed a formal “rejection of gratification” report with the KPK on 3 July 2026. KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo confirmed the filing and said the Gratification Directorate is now verifying the report. KPK investigators warned that the act of returning the envelope does not eliminate any potential criminal element and that they are probing possible links to alleged bribery over forest‑land release permits (HPT) and other irregularities.

KPK officials, including Acting Investigation Director Achmad Taufik Husein, reiterated that the minister should have reported the envelope promptly under anti‑corruption law. The agency continues to examine the source of any money involved and whether the envelope relates to the broader corruption case surrounding Kuantan Singingi officials. President Joko Widodo has also called on the forestry ministry to strengthen anti‑corruption governance.
