Indonesia's Forestry Ministry cracks down on illegal wildlife trade

In Lampung province, trained detection dogs patrol the busy ports of Bakauheni and Bandar Lampung, sniffing out evidence of illegal wildlife trafficking and helping protect the remaining forested areas that host endangered species such as tapirs.

In a separate operation near Padang, Sumatra Barat, authorities seized a sack of pangolin scales and 16 hornbill beaks, arresting suspect RPS alias R (23). The raid was conducted by the Forestry Law Enforcement Agency, the Regional Conservation Office, and local police. Minister of Environment and Forestry Raja Juli Antoni reiterated that safeguarding protected wildlife remains a top policy priority and that intensified patrols and technology will be used to disrupt trafficking networks.
