Indonesia's Former Education Minister Nadiem Makarim Seeks Acquittal in Chromebook Corruption Case

Former education minister Nadiem Makarim told a Jakarta anti‑corruption court that the Chromebook procurement case against him should result in a full acquittal. He argued that the project saved the state up to Rp 3.6 trillion compared with Windows‑based laptops, and that no loss to the treasury occurred.

Meanwhile, Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian People’s Representative Council Lestari Moerdijat urged that anti‑corruption values be instilled in children from an early age. Speaking after the KPK issued a circular to curb illicit payments in school admissions, she highlighted that 28 % of schools still collect illegal fees and that many parents and teachers view small gifts as normal. She emphasized character development as essential to preventing future corruption in the education sector.
