Indonesia’s Global Competitiveness Ranking Falls to 48 in 2026

Indonesia dropped to 48th place out of 70 countries in the IMD World Competitiveness Ranking 2026, a steep fall from its 27th position in 2024. The overall score fell to 57.6 points, driven by declines in business efficiency, government efficiency and infrastructure, while economic performance remained relatively stable.

Coordinating Minister of the Economy Airlangga Hartarto said the government will investigate the causes of the slide and examine bottlenecks in preparation for corrective measures. The report noted that most Asia‑Pacific neighbours improved: Singapore and Hong Kong led the ranking, Malaysia, South Korea and Thailand moved up, and Vietnam entered the list at 27th place.
