Indonesia's Health Ministry to standardize tobacco and vape packaging colors

Indonesia's Ministry of Health plans to introduce a national rule that makes the colour of all tobacco‑related product packaging uniform. The draft regulation (RPMK) covers conventional cigarettes and electronic nicotine devices (vapes) and aims to reduce the visual appeal of these products, especially to children and teenagers. Dr. Andi Saguni, Acting Director‑General of Disease Prevention, said the measure is not intended to ban legal products but to prevent packaging from acting as a promotional tool that encourages young people to start smoking. The policy follows international studies that show standardised packaging lowers product attractiveness, improves the impact of health warnings and helps curb smoking initiation among youth.
