Indonesia's Home Affairs Minister urges regional governments to strengthen strategic communication

Indonesian Minister of Home Affairs Muhammad Tito Karnavian has called on regional governments to strengthen the role of the Communications and Informatics Office (Diskominfo). He emphasized that Diskominfo must act as a driver of strategic communication to enhance the effectiveness of public policies and ensure the public understands government initiatives.

Speaking at a coordination meeting regarding the agenda setting for the administration of President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka, Karnavian noted that public legitimacy is vital in a democracy. He highlighted the challenge of the ‘firehose of falsehood’—the high-intensity spread of misinformation in the digital age—which can overshadow factual information.

To counter this, Karnavian urged regional Diskominfo offices to serve as essential partners to the central government by unifying narratives. He also stressed the importance of systematic media management across both conventional and social media platforms, encouraging better coordination between provincial and district/city levels.
