Indonesia's Human Rights Ministry launches anti‑trafficking program in Sumba and plans refugee response in Papua

The Directorate General for Service and Human Rights Compliance of Indonesia's Ministry of Human Rights visited Sumba in East Nusa Tenggara to pilot a national programme aimed at preventing human trafficking and sexual violence. Director Munafrizal Manan emphasised that "prevention is the most effective step" and called for early education of youth to recognise exploitation methods and report incidents.

Vice‑Minister of Human Rights Mugiyanto disclosed that about 122,000 refugees are currently in Papua. He announced that the ministry will convene a cross‑agency meeting with the police, armed forces and other ministries to coordinate comprehensive assistance for the displaced population, noting the need for multi‑ministerial collaboration to address the sizable challenge.
