Indonesia's Judicial Commission moves forward with Supreme Court candidate screening

The Judicial Commission (Komisi Yudisial, KY) completed the health examinations for 36 candidates for the Supreme Court of Indonesia. The tests were held at RSPAD Gatot Subroto in Jakarta from 3‑5 June 2026, with personality assessments conducted on 3‑4 June. The screening also included four ad hoc human‑rights judges and two ad hoc anti‑corruption judges. After the medical and psychological checks, the candidates will undergo a record‑verification phase, which will involve reviewing public feedback, background checks and asset disclosures in cooperation with the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).

Separately, KY reported receiving 592 public complaints of alleged judicial ethics violations for the period January‑June 2026. Of these, 80 met formal criteria for further action; seven cases were forwarded to the Judges' Honor Council, and five judges were found guilty and dismissed without honor. The commission noted a recent 280 percent increase in judges’ salaries and reiterated its focus on maintaining professional and ethical standards in the judiciary.
