Indonesia's KAI expands Economy class train service and rolls out modernized Taksaka trains

PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) has broadened its affordable rail offering with the Kereta Ekonomi Kerakyatan on the Garut–Pasarsenen line. From 11 June 2024 to 26 July 2026 the service served 103,848 passengers, featuring upgraded interiors, adjustable seating and low fares aimed at commuters, students, traders and families. Vice‑President Corporate Communication Anne Purba said the rollout responds directly to customer demand for comfortable yet inexpensive inter‑city travel.

In early 2024 KAI also introduced New Generation Executive and New Generation Luxury coaches on the KA Taksaka (Gambir–Yogyakarta) route. Presented by Vice‑President Public Relations Joni Martinus, the trains include modern interiors, USB charging ports, passenger‑information displays, tempered double‑glass windows and other digital amenities, marking a step‑up in service quality that will later be extended to additional routes.
