Indonesia's Kemdiktisaintek and BRIN plan waste technology trials
The Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Kemdiktisaintek) and the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) are discussing the implementation of waste processing technology trials across several regions in Indonesia.
Minister Brian Yuliarto and BRIN Head Arief Satria met in Jakarta to discuss technologies ranging from household-scale solutions to larger facilities. Proposed methods include organic waste composting, biogas production from kitchen waste, and pyrolysis to convert specific plastics into liquid fuel. A small team will be formed to select pilot villages and determine the most suitable technology based on regional characteristics.
To ensure the continuity of these programs, the ministry plans to involve university students in socialization and assistance efforts. The implementation will require local governments and partners to prepare land, operational costs, maintenance, and management structures.
