Indonesia's Kemenko Polkam pushes for improved public information services
The Coordinating Ministry for Political and Security Affairs (Kemenko Polkam) is working to strengthen the capacity of Information and Documentation Management Officers (PPID) following a decline in the national Public Information Disclosure Index (IKIP). The index dropped from 75.65 in 2024 to 66.43 in 2025.
Agung Pratistho, Assistant Deputy for Coordination of Public Communication and Information Management at Kemenko Polkam, noted a gap between existing regulations and real-world implementation. Key challenges identified include uneven officer competence, limited institutional support, data fragmentation, and suboptimal digital service integration.
Efforts to improve transparency include strengthening institutional capacity, aligning information services between central and regional governments, and updating Public Information Lists. The ministry also emphasized the need to balance information openness with data protection to prevent legal disputes and the spread of disinformation.
