Indonesia's KOI and Sampoerna Foundation fund US scholarship for swimmer Michael Xander Samosir

The Indonesian Olympic Committee (KOI) has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Putera Sampoerna Foundation to reinforce the student‑athlete program. The partnership provides academic support such as IELTS preparation, GED courses, individualized learning plans and full‑scholarship opportunities abroad.

As part of the initiative announced in Jakarta on 30 July 2026, 15‑year‑old freestyle‑butterfly swimmer Michael Xander Samosir received a full scholarship to study in the United States, aiming to join Baylor University while continuing his training. KOI executive Josephine Tampubolon emphasized the need for athletes to balance sport with education, and KOI chairman Raja Sapta Oktohari highlighted that education is a foundation for globally competitive athletes.
