Bupati Pemalang Anom Widiyantoro and KPK staff arrested in large extortion probe

Indonesia’s anti‑corruption commission (KPK) conducted an operation‑tangkap‑tangan (OTT) in late July 2026 that resulted in the arrest of Bupati Pemalang Anom Widiyantoro, KPK administrative staff Setya Budi Dias, his father Lilik Budi Suprianto, and associate Mohamad Haris. The suspects are accused of extorting regional officials and private parties, collecting roughly Rp1.98 billion, and demanding Rp568 million in holiday allowances (THR) from local department heads. KPK seized about Rp2.7 billion in cash, including a sealed blue bag containing Rp1.2 billion that had not yet been distributed. Electronic evidence showed the use of a phone‑timer feature that automatically deletes messages in chats between Setya and his father, which investigators found suspicious. The four suspects were detained for an initial 20‑day period while the commission continues to probe additional money flows and possible similar extortion cases in other regions.
